I get press releases all the time and almost all get deleted after they’re read. Not this one. I think this is definitely one to see:
The Holy Grail for Dylan fans arrives at Gallery Number One
Ken Regan exhibition of unseen images opens May 1st at the Castle St gallery
From Friday May 1st, Bob Dylan fans and historians can prepare for a rare treat as Gallery Number One, Castle Street, open their Bob Dylan photographic exhibition by New York photographer Ken Regan. Coinciding with Dylan’s Dublin gig at The O2 and imminent album release, Dylan fever abound and his legions of reverent followers will have the opportunity to get a first glimpse of many never seen before shots, spanning decades of his career.
Ken Regan was the first photographer to be given full access to Dylan on tour with no other photographer ever having this level of access since. The show will feature rare and unseen images from the Rolling Thunder Revue and beyond – chosen for the show by Dave Douglas of Gallery Number One and Ken Regan together at his studio in New York who went through over 3500 images to select 60 never seen before images that will feature in the collection.
Some of the many highlights from the show include;
Images from the first ever meeting between Dylan and a young Bruce Springsteen, who, at the time was being hailed as ‘the new Dylan’
Dylan’s first ever meeting with Mohammed Ali; Ali was with Dylan as part of the Free Rubin Carter Campaign.
Images from inside the prison when Dylan met Rubin Carter; Dylan wrote the song Hurricane about the fight for justice regarding Carter’s imprisonment. The song is the opening track on the album Desire which was the album recorded at the time of the Rolling Thunder Revue. This version of the lyrics of this song was changed as Columbia were worried about legal action against them and made Dylan re-write it.
